Celebrate the boozy British Virgin Island Classic at the Beach on Broadway served in fresh coconuts

DENVER (July 31, 2024)— Adrift Tiki Bar, the Beach on Broadway, is proud to present Painkiller Week, a multi-day celebration that honors Pusser’s Rum’s signature drink, the Painkiller®. Standard and Elevated versions of the iconic tropical cocktail will be available Aug. 13-17.

The Painkiller emerged in the 1970s at the British Virgin Islands watering hole Soggy Dollar Bar. Without a dock, patrons had to swim to the bar. Owner Daphne Henderson created a cocktail to reward their efforts and "kill their pain” and thus, the Painkiller was born!

Many traveled from near and far to sample Daphne’s creation, including Pusser's Rum founder Charles Tobias. He managed to recreate the cocktail recipe from the tightlipped Henderson and bring the infamous rum cocktail to sailing communities, restaurants, bars and fine cocktail venues throughout the world. Learn more about the backstory here.

“Here in landlocked Colorado, we’re paying homage to the storied history of the Painkiller and we’re grateful that this cocktail is a tropical mainstay,” says Adrift Bar Manager Jacoby Morciglio. “There’s no better way to celebrate this iconic drink than in a fresh coconut!”

During the week Aug. 13-17, guest at Adrift can choose from two Painkiller options:

  • The Standard ($16): Featuring Lemon Hart 151 and Pusser Blue Label Rum, fresh pineapple and orange juice, house-made cream of coconut, and fresh nutmeg

  • The Elevated ($25):  Featuring Pusser's Gunpowder Proof Rum, fresh pineapple and orange juice, house-made cream of coconut, and fresh nutmeg. Served in a hand-cranked fresh coconut

Reservations for Painkiller Week are highly encouraged. For more information about Adrift’s Painkiller Week, contact Chea Franz at Chea@IndieCreativeCo.com.
