Asian Girls Ignite Awarded $564,000 for Programming that Empowers Colorado’s AANHPI Girls and Gender-Expansive Youth
DENVER (August 13, 2024) - Asian Girls Ignite (AGI), a Colorado nonprofit that’s dedicated to igniting the power of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) girls and gender-expansive youth, is thrilled to announce the receipt of $564,000 in grants that will support AGI’s goals of leadership development and expanded student programming.
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous support,” says Mehgan Yen, Co-Founder of Asian Girls Ignite. “This funding will allow us to broaden our community reach and deepen our student impact, ensuring that more AANHPI girls and gender-expansive youth in Colorado can explore their identities, build leadership skills, and connect with their communities. We are excited to enhance our programs and provide even more opportunities for our students to ignite their power.”
The significant funding from Arc’teryx, The Colorado Health Foundation, and The Colorado Trust will be utilized to support AGI’s mission by strengthening areas in outdoor programming, organizational capacity development, and mentorship programming.
Established in 2020, Asian Girls Ignite is passionately committed to creating transformative experiences for Colorado AANHPI middle and high school girls and gender-expansive youth in grades 6-12 including adoptees, multiracial individuals, LGBTQIA+ folks, and people with disabilities. Offerings include middle and high school programs, as well as summer and outdoor programming such as ropes courses and back-to-school picnic and paddle events, youth leadership collective, mentorship opportunities, and community events.
“AGI plays such a unique role in the Colorado AANHPI community. We believe their youth leadership and community programming will continue to make a difference to AANHPI youth for future generations,” says Chris Bui, Senior Program Officer, Colorado Health Foundation. “Our hope for the grant funding is that it will ensure their long-term strength and stability moving forward as they continue to expand their impact and reach.”
