The recipe was developed in collaboration between the breweries back in 2021, when Old 121 founder, Brett Zahrte, pulled out his grandfather's old handwritten brewing journal from his days at Schlitz back in the 1950s. The beer itself was a pilot batch at Schlitz as a small one-off recipe. With a major milestone for Old 121 Brewhouse happening in 2024, the Zahrte family was invited back to brew the beer with current Old 121 owners Sam and Katie Nicholson and the Banded Oak team of Chris Kirk and Will Curtin. • Story behind the collab: As new dads, Eric (Craftsman) and Sam (MainStage) wanted to go back to a simpler time, full of "C" hops and caramel malt - they believe it was called the early 2010s. With new responsibilities and roles at home, it was time to pop on the New Balance shoes and get back to the basics of a post recession construction of IPA. The brewers are adding in some newfangled technology (Columbus CGX pellets, steamed C40 caramel malt) to try and bring the joys of dank-pine, orange-colored IPAs to a new generation

El Rancho Colorado, Barnett & Son Brewing Co., and Andiamo Brew

  • Beer style: Session Doppelbock

  • Story behind the collab: The brewers all share a love for traditional European style lagers and Andiamo’s focus on very low abv led them to  craft a super quaffable version of a German Doppelbock. Slightly an oxymoron, Petite Bock is a 3.0% abv version of a "doppelbock." Generous in deep malty flavor and a rich amber/ruby color.

El Rancho Colorado and Steep Brewing and Coffee

  • Beer style: Potato Lager

  • Story behind the collab: This beer was inspired by Kartoffelbier (German potato beer) which, much like many unusual sources of grain or sugar in beer, spawned more from necessity. While most contemporary American lager is produced with some combination of barley, corn, and rice, it is not common to see potato as a source of starch. Adam Gurtshaw and Levi Brewer spent time working together in the Denver brew scene and have since made their way up the I-70 corridor into the mountains. This beer was a way to bring our two new endeavors together in a fun and unusual way

LUKI Brewery and Downhill Brewing - Greenwood Village

  • Beer style: Raspberry Cotton Candy Kolsch

  • Story behind the collab: The brewers wanted to create something that touched on something that both of their breweries are known for.  At LUKI, it's the circus theming and some classic 90s beer styles, and for Downhill Brewing - Greenwood Village (then Peak View Brewing), it's some fantastic adjunct-forward beers with unique flavors. So it made perfect sense to create a classic style of beer in a Kolsch-style with the raspberry and cotton candy flavors

Lone Tree Brewing Company and Bierstadt Lagerhaus

  • Beer style: Zoigl

  • Story behind the collab: Zoigl is a type of German beer brewed in the Oberpfalz, eastern Bavaria, between Franconia and the Czech Republic. Mountain Toad Brewing and Coal Mine Ave Brewing

  • Beer style: California Common/Spiced Beer

  • Story behind the collab: The friends at Coal Mine Ave Brewing in Littleton and Mountain Toad Brewing in Golden wanted to make a savory beer that was inspired by food.  They decided to make a beer based on a delicious savory pastry from India, the Samosa, (pastries that are a dumpling made with a flaky dough filled with potatoes and spices) after Manuel from Coal Mine Ave shared a story of how he was sent to Chennai in Southern India for a month for his job in software development where he first tried samosas. He kept in touch with some of his co-workers from his previous job since starting Coal Mine Ave, like his friend Pushpendra, who gave us his recipe for samosas which we used as our base for making the beer. To make the brew, we used roasted potatoes in the mash and then added Ajwan, Cumin, ginger, spicy chiles, and more to resemble the scrumptious samosa

Mythmaker Brewing and Left Hand Brewing Company

  • Beer style: Belgian Style Dubbel with Fig and Plum

  • Story behind the collab: After talking beer at GABF, the brewers decided they wanted to brew together. New Image Brewing and Primitive Beer

  • Beer style: Belgian-Style Dark Strong Ale

  • Story behind the collab: This collaboration builds on the mutual dedication to Colorado agriculture and love of Belgian traditions shared by Primitive and New Image. The Belgian-Style Dark Strong Ale constructed with a less traditional/more contemporary Barleywine-esque foundation using 100% Colorado-grown grains, hops, and yeast. Outside of the uniquely Colorado terroir, to celebrate the changing of the seasons and the upcoming Sugar Moon (aptly named for the late winter thaw and beginning of Maple Tapping), the Dark Strong Ale will make use of Vermont Maple Syrup, instead of traditional Belgian Candi Syrup, as an adjunct source of simple sugar. At Collab Fest, the young and unconditioned iteration of their collaboration will be served tranquil from beer engine through sparkler, like some of their favorite examples of English Barleywine. They will package and naturally condition a larger portion of this collaboration in cans and kegs, as well as mature a smaller contingent in freshly emptied Maple Syrup casks before packaging and conditioning

New Terrain Brewing and Vector Brewing (TX)

Two breweries who love to let their imaginations wander coming together to build a truly unique take on an endeared classic

Novel Strand Brewing and Cohesion Brewing

  • Beer style: Unfiltered Czech Hoppy Beer

With a strong malt backbone, and layered bright hop character, they think this beer will be a fun twist on their typical offerings

OCC Brewing and Old 121 Brewhouse

  • Beer style: London Brown Ale & Gruit
